Today we had Science Alive visit us in the hall - it was so exciting to have so many fun science activities related to space.
Huge thanks to Mel, Cherie, Kiriwai, Debbi and Shona for running the stations.
We made picture of a galaxy using glue and grated chalk (Issy)
I learnt that it took a year for the earth to orbit the sun right around (Georgetta)
The galaxy that we painted was the milky way galaxy (Sophie L)
For the planets we had to hang up some planets, and I hung up Uranus (Stella)
WE learnt that when the sun is shining on solar panels it makes electricity (Sam H)
The sun sets in the west and rises in the east (Rhys)
We got to put some rocks into some powder to make craters (Mila)
We had our own little books which meant that we could get information about the planets (Joe)
We learnt about orbiting - the earth orbits the sun, and the moon orbits the earth (Issy)
We arranged the planets in order - I got to hang up Jupiter (Coll)
I learnt that when a meteor hits the moon it makes a wee pit but it's called a crater (Lee)
Mars has lots of gravity (Sam G)
At the planet table we got to hang up the planets (Lily)
Mars has the biggest mountain (Joel)
At the orbiting table we learnt that when its day time in some places its night time at others.
At the moon table we got to learn about the how the looks of the moon from earth changed but the moon itself didn't change (Sam H).
