Today Bianca from the Christchurch Art Gallery came to our school and took a lesson called Camera-less Photography.
Half of our class joined Room 15 in the morning and the other half joined with Room 13 in the afternoon.
We looked at the art work from famous artist David Cook who has taken lots of photos around Christchurch.
We learned about how light travels and how it makes pictures.
We made our own photo without even needing a camera!
First we drew a picture about something that is important to us. We only used a black vivid or a twink pen. We drew onto a piece of plastic. This was a bit unusual and something most of us had never done before!
Next we were given a special piece of paper that is blue on one side. We wrote our name on the back and then layered our art work onto a piece of wood. We added some cute wee items such as leaves and feathers to add interest to our work.
Then we put a piece of thick plastic on top and held it all together with pegs.
We went outside and waited about five minutes for the photo we were making to develop.
We were amazed to see the paper change colour in front of us!
When we went back inside we undid our layers - it was like magic - the picture we had drawn was on the photo paper! There was lots of amazement at this time!
FInally we put our photo paper into some water for it to set.
We have left our artwork to dry and tomorrow we will collect it to display.
Some of us even had a turn inside a big pin hole camera made out of a box!
