We have learned to use an app called Shadow Puppets on the iPad.
We have used our researching skills to find out information about the sun and the moon. Next we planned how we would share this information using Shadow Puppet. Some people have now completed their digital story. Check them out here On Friday Miss Tapuke did some fun art with us.
We drew symmetrical cats using Paul Klee's techniques. We learned about Paul Klee as we drew in his style. Sophie B brought along a telescope to our class.
We spent some time today examining it and discovering how telescopes work. We watched some youtube clips about Galileo and Issac Newton who invented telescopes. We had a turn at making our own telescopes. We have noticed a few people in our class have been having trouble remembering to say kind things to others. We spent some time talking about kindness and why it is so important. Mrs Pelham gave some children some toothpaste and paint tubes. Those children were allowed to squeeze all the toothpaste and paint out onto the paper. It felt kind of naughty but also fun to do this. We knew it wasn't the right thing to be doing but the more we squeezed the more fun it felt and the easier it became. Then we had to try and scoop the toothpaste and paint back into the tubes. This was really messy and very tricky - in fact it was nearly impossible to put it back into the tube. We compared this to saying mean things to other people. We know it is wrong to say unkind things to others but sometimes we do it. The more we say the easier it is to keep on saying the mean things - it even starts to feel quite nice (and a bit powerful just like when we were squeezing the last bit of toothpaste out). We talked about how after the words have come out of our mouth it is very hard to take them back and the poor person who heard them can be very hurt. We are going to try very hard to say kind things to others an d if we forget we will think about the tubes of toothpaste and paint. I will try to not be mean to other people - Emily I won't encourage other people to do bad things - Stella Sorry still doesn't make people better - the words have still been said and it is hard to take them back - Joel It's hard to take your meanness back so the best idea is not to be mean at all - Thomas Stop being mean before it gets fun - Samuel If you keep being mean to people they won't want to play with you - Nate If you say a mean thing it is hard to fix it - Lily Be kind to other people - Mila Mean words can be scary - Samuel If someone is being mean, walk away and play with someone else. Tell a grown up. - Georgetta If someone says "stop it," don't keep doing it - Sam Don't tell people what to do - Kairu Be encouraging - Sophie L Sorry is the right thing to say but it doesn't fix everything straight away - Rhys Being forgiving when someone has made a mistake gives them a chance to improve and get it right for next time - Sam Don't get into a habit of saying mean things - it's hard to break a habit - Thomas
We have been learning about how astronauts survive in space.
We wondered about what the astronauts eat and how they manage with food when there is no gravity! Today we watched some clips about real astronauts in space - they showed us the way they eat and the types of food they have. Did you know that the in space the food floats away so the astronauts eat straight from bags? Did you know that astronauts can't make crumbs or spill water as if they do the pieces might float into the electronics and could cause damage to them? We worked with our friends from Room 15. We imagined being on a space craft. Then we had a turn at making our own space food. We mixed some milk with some instant pudding mix inside a plastic bag then we used a straw to scoop it out and eat it. It was fun to do this and it tasted pretty good too! Check out these happy faces - thanks to the lovely Emily who took the photos today. |
